One of the most authentic experiences in Venezuela?

I personally think it is. Not only that beaches are great but people are friendly, here you can see how the local fishermen live day by day. You can't miss a visit to the pier and see how the fresh fish arrives and gets traded and also if you have the energy, go and swim to Playa Grande by 630am to enjoy the dawn with crystal waters. This place is also good if you want to save some money as there is a range of different prices in posadas. Enjoy!

What to do?

Snorkeling

We can arrange snorkeling in different areas of Henri Pittier National Park coastline. You will be encountering multicolored coral reefs and schools of fish, including imposing submarine caves in the areas around Cepe, Valle Seco and La Cienaga

Hiking

The rainforest of Henri Pittier National Park offers great opportunities to trek and we can easily arrange it. Enjoy waterfalls, sugar cane and cocoa plantations, meet local people in their routine up in their forest farms, get impressed by the dense Coastal Range jungle.
If you want something softer you can go on your own to the view point of Choroni to get great shots or/ and enjoy the sunset.

Beach Hopping

One of the most affordable and well-liked activities is taking a boat trip to different isolated beaches along the coast. Cheaper day tours could be availed from small boats, also called a “Peñero”, at the main docks for only $5 to $15 per passenger.

Survival Spanish Course

Learn Spanish with a private teacher as much as you want during your stay in Choroni. He will not only explain and help with the language, he will also show you a bit of the local culture which allows you to interact with the people in town.
If you are traveling along South America and want to feel more confident about your Spanish, this is your course. These Spanish lessons for travelers in Venezuela are intended for people who need to learn some Spanish fast to move around in a Spanish-speaking environment. Conversation, role-play practice, vocabulary development and grammar are part of this course.

Where to go

Chuao

Located 20 minutes away going west from Choroni. Founded in the 16th century. The village is famous for its cacao plantations and Diablos Danzantes (dancing devils) The village is surrounded by mountains and dense rainforest, there is no road access and visitors. The Chuao plantations has been there for over 400 years growing Criollo and hybrid varieties of cacao.
We can arrange a nice posada with meals included here!

Chorreron Falls

Hike for about 2 hours uphill from Chuao Village to reach the spectacular 70 meters high waterfall known as Chorreron.

Choroni

Cepe

Located about 30 minutes west to Choroni by boat. Another fine beach, with various small local restaurants on the beach itself. Here there is the possibility for snorkeling, and see different fishes and corals. We can also arrange overnight here.

Valle Seco

Only 10 minutes away by boat you find this great snorkeling spot with a natural coral reef pool that stops waves. No palm trees near the shore, only one small restaurant which opens only on weekends.

La Cienaga

One hour 30 minutes away we find this exotic and spectacular bay with green and blue water. Go fishing, kayaking, swimming or snorkeling in the huge tranquil natural pool of this mangrove bay on the west end of Henri Pittier National Park. Mangroves hug the curve of the shoreline and white sand fulfill this coral lagoon beach. The bay stays calm most of the time, making it an ideal place to spend some time in the water. There are no facilities at the beach itself so we arrange everything as a full day excursion. We may find dolphins on the ride from Choroni.

Tuja

Located 1 hour west from Choroni, it is one of the nicest beach choices in the park. Sunbathers, swimmers, photographers, surfers and dreamers are all lured to the shores of Tuja. Maybe it’s the white-pink sand, the clear blue waters or the variety of things to do, from paddle surfing to hiking. There is also a fresh water natural pool to cool off the heat at walking distance from the beach.

Playa Grande

It is the closest beach and most popular for visitors due its walking distance location (only 10 mins away by foot) A beautiful beach, surrounded with palm trees and many restaurants with fresh fish. Rent a chair and parasol, drink coconut cocktail or a cold beer while enjoying pelicans and frigatebird flying over the green and blue water colors of Playa Grande.

El Dique

Hidden within the lush green of Henri Pittier National Park rainforest we find this secluded waterfall; take a dip if you dare and feel the refreshing water that comes directly from the green mountains. This is perfect to combine with any of the beach options above since it is located 20 minutes away by car from Choroni.

Choroni

Mirador de Choroni

Enjoy unique views of Puerto Colombia pier, the rainforest of Henri PIttier national and the Caribbean Sea from the Mirador del Cristo in Choroni. It is only a 5 minutes uphill hike that you can do on your own overlooking the fishermen boats and pelicans quite close to you.

Malecon

It is a perfect place to walk, relax and enjoy while you see the waves breaking to the Choroni beach boulevard. It is a meeting place for all the visitors you can browse or purchase local art or have some Venezuelan fast food. During weekends, mainly on Saturday night, it becomes a stage where local performers play their drums music and spectators are encouraged to join in to sing and dance with them. One of Venezuela’s must do. Don’t miss it!
